The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and CSC Comeback Player of the Year Award recognized the senior offensive lineman
NEW YORK – UNT senior offensive lineman Gabe Blair was named to a pair of award watch lists for the upcoming 2025 season, including the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and the Comeback Player of the Year Award.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the nation's top offensive player who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must either have played football and graduated from a Texas high school or play for a Division I program in Texas.
The semifinalists for the award will be announced in November with the finalists announced in December. The winner will be celebrated at The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 21, 2026 in Tyler, Texas.
Blair was also recognized on the 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list, released by the College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press and Fiesta Sports Foundation. He is one of 75 student-athletes on the preseason watch list for the award that recognizes college football players overcoming injury, illness or other circumstances. Blair missed nearly the entire 2024 season with an injury, making his only appearance in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl where he started at left guard. At the conclusion of the season, a panel of college football writers, editors, sports information directors vote to select three student-athletes to honor as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
The senior has been a staple of the Mean Green's offensive line since 2021, having played in 38 career games and started 37 of them. He is set to return to the field this season to lead a veteran North Texas line that ranks among the top 12 in the FBS in combined games played and games started.
