Subsomboon, Luitwieler Lead UNT Into Final Round Of Sam Golden

DENTON – After 36 holes on the opening day of the season opening Sam Golden Invitational, the host UNT women's golf team has two players in the top three on the players leaderboard and sits in fifth place overall headed into the final round on Tuesday.
While the Mean Green finished the first two rounds in fifth place they are just four shots behind second place of the 13-team and three round tournament at the Oakmont Country Club in Corinth.
North Texas junior Bouquet Subsomboon has paced the Mean Green so far in their season opening tournament as she shot an 8-under over the first two rounds on Monday and sits alone in second place overall. Subsomboon shot a 67 (-5) in the first round and followed it up with a 69 (-3) in round two. Subsomboon will need to have an incredible third round to catch the tournament leader, Ebba Liljeberg of Missouri. The Tigers' freshman is in first place at 17-under and nine strokes ahead of Subsomboon after she set the single round course record in round two with a 61 (-11).
Right behind Subsomboon is her teammate Mallorie Luitwieler who heads into the third round in a tie for third place. The senior had a career day on Monday, which was also her birthday. Luitwieler shot a 68 (-4) in the first round and then a 69 (-3) in round two. She has a score of seven-under through two rounds.
After a so-so start to the tournament UNT senior Malisone Chanthapanya picked it up in round two and has a score of two-under through two rounds and sits in a tie for 28th. Chanthapanya shot a 72 (E) in the first round but finished round two with a 70 (-2) to help her team make up ground.
Junior Katharina Anglett rounds out UNT's scoring through 36 holes. The German is in 56th place at three-over. Anglett struggled in the first round as she shot a 75 (+3) but was resilient over the final 18 holes as she finished round two shooting a 72 (E).
North Texas redshirt freshman Reicherin Hanslkie made her collegiate debut on Monday competing as an individuals and had a very strong second round. Hanslkie shot a 74 (+2) in the first round but bounced back nicely in round two with a 70 (-2). She heads into the final round in 42nd place at even.
Also competing as individuals on Monday were UNT's Mason Lewis, Marin Fujiyasu and Victoria Georgieva. Lewis shot a 77 (+5) on Monday over the two rounds and the two freshmen, Fujiyasu and Georgieva, each shot a 78 (+6).
