The Mean Green won their 13th straight conference game in The Super Pit
DENTON, Texas – Mekhia Chase scored a career-high 16 points alongside Megan Nestor's ninth double double of the season to lead UNT women's basketball (10-7, 4-1 American) past Memphis, 75-64, Tuesday night at The Super Pit.
Chase soared past her previous career-high of 12 points set just a week ago against East Carolina, knocking down five-of-eight shots and adding three assists to her line. She was narrowly outscored by Nestor, who led the team with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Nestor entered Tuesday night top 15 in the country in double doubles on the season and has done so in each of her last four games.
Chania Price and Aysia Proctor both reached double-figure scoring marks as well, giving the Mean Green four total for the third time this season. With 14 points Tuesday, Price came up just one point of setting her career-high for the third straight game but has now hit double digits in three consecutive contests. Meanwhile, Proctor poured in a dozen points for her 11th double-digit scoring outing of the season.
The Mean Green defense set the tone out of the gate, holding Memphis to just 22 first-half points and forcing 12 turnovers while doing so. Those efforts provided UNT a 40-22 lead at the break, an advantage it would never relinquish despite a third-quarter push from the Tigers. With the victory, North Texas has now won 13 straight games against American Conference opponents inside the Super Pit.
UNT returns to action on Saturday, January 17, for a home battle against the league-leading Rice Owls at 2 p.m. CT.
