DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team's three-game win streak was snapped Saturday at the Super Pit as it dropped a tight 58-54 battle to Rice.
North Texas (10-8, 4-2 American) struggled to find its rhythm offensively through three the first three quarters of the game, but a 7-0 run to begin the fourth brought it within four points at the 8:29 mark. That deficit was later trimmed to just two, but Rice ultimately held off UNT's late push to secure the victory.
"We knew today was going to be a battle," head coach Jason Burton said. "We knew today was going to be a really good game. Hats off to Rice for getting it done… Still really proud of our team and the direction that we're headed."
Aysia Proctor continued her hot streak of play, tallying a career-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting. She also made both of her three-point attempts, improving her to 53.2% from deep during conference play, and has reached double-digit points in all six games against American opponents.
Meanwhile, Megan Nestor produced her fifth double double in a row and 10th of the year with a 15-point, 21-rebound performance. It marked Nestor's second time hauling in at least 20 rebounds this season.
North Texas opens the new week with a quick trip to UAB, which is set for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. CT, before returning home to face Tulsa on Saturday.
