Swim & Dive Wraps Up Competition at Mardi Gras

NEW ORLEANS - The UNT swimming and diving team took part in the unique round-robin Mardi Gras Invite on the campus of Tulane on Friday and Saturday and left with a 1-2 mark in its three dual meets, while finishing third in the overall team standings.
UNT beat New Mexico on Saturday, 36-26, while getting wins from Vivian Anderson (50 backstroke), Mikaela Goelst (50 breaststroke) and Maria Jose Sanchez Castro, who set a new personal best in the 400 IM on her way to a win in 4:30.45. The Mean Green also got a win in the 800 freestyle relay.
The Mean Green also got a win from Kayleigh Lovell in the 500 freestyle in their dual against Little Rock, and scored a victory in the 1-meter springboard from Sydney Guidara.
UNT will compete again next Saturday, January 24, as the Mean Green will celebrate Senior Day at 10 a.m., against UTRGV, with swimming at Pohl Recreation Center and diving at the PEB Natatorium. That will be the Mean Green's final tuneup before the American Conference championship, which begins February 18, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
