IRVING, Texas - Senior Alliyah McNeil has been named the American Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
McNeil, who hails from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, had a strong showing over the weekend in the Arkansas Invitational, as she won the high jump with a leap of 1.80 meters to break a 13-year-old school indoor record. She also placed second in the long jump with a jump of 6.22 meters.
"I am happy for Alliyah, she definitely deserves this honor," head coach Doug Marshall said. "This is just the beginning for her."Â Â
It's the first weekly American honor of McNeil's career and the first for the Mean Green this season.Â
