PHILADELPHIA – The UNT volleyball team nearly completed its second reverse sweep of the season but ultimately fell in five sets (23-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19, 8-15) to Temple on Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall.
North Texas moves to 9-8 on the season and 2-4 in American Conference play following the loss.
The two teams split the first four sets as the Owls won the first two and UNT responded with back-to-back victories of their own. With the Mean Green's sights set on another dramatic comeback, it was Temple who responded in the final frame and clinched the match by a score of 15-8. UNT compiled 50 kills and eight service aces but was unable to harness an Owl offense that recorded 61 kills on a .252 hitting percentage.
Outside hitters Jahniya Jackson and Lillian Croshaw led North Texas offensively with 15 kills apiece. Jackson added eight digs and two service aces, while Croshaw finished with five digs and a pair of blocks.
At the setter position, Sidney Soria recorded her team-leading sixth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 14 digs, finishing one assist shy of her career-high. Meanwhile, Dakota Mitchell reached a new season-best of 21 digs in her second consecutive start at libero.
The Mean Green now return to the state of Texas for a quick visit to UTSA on Wednesday at 5 p.m. That match will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
