GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNT volleyball team fell in three sets (28-30, 21-25, 20-25) to East Carolina on Friday night at Minges Coliseum.
After splitting their first two league matches last weekend, the Mean Green now sit at 1-2 in American Conference play and 8-6 on the season. Meanwhile, ECU has won all three of its conference matches thus far to improve to 10-5 overall.
In the opening set, the two teams battled deep into extra points before the Pirates were able to secure a crucial 30-28 victory. They then carried that momentum into the rest of the match, winning in straight sets despite several ties and lead changes throughout.
The Mean Green offense produced 49 kills on a .239 hitting percentage, which was significantly higher than its mark of .044 last time out against Tulane, but 21 attack errors and 12 service errors proved to be costly. Conversely, East Carolina hit .236 while surrendering just 18 total errors on the night.
Outside hitter Jahniya Jackson continued her stellar season as she led all players with 16 kills for her ninth straight double-digit kill performance. She has now led the Mean Green in kills nine times this season. Reagan Bedell also contributed an efficient night of offense, compiling 11 kills on a .429 hitting percentage.
North Texas concludes its road trip against Charlotte on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. That match will once again be available for streaming on ESPN+.
