Lewis Leads Mean Green At Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – UNT women's golf senior Mason Lewis is in third place on the leaderboard and the Mean Green as a team are in ninth place after two rounds at the 18-team Purdue Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Country Club.
Lewis is -7 after two rounds, which were both played on Sunday due to impending weather. The Granbury, Texas, native shot a 68 (-4) on the first round and a 69 (-3) on round two. The 68 in round one was one stroke off her lowest single round in her collegiate career, which she set two weeks ago in a dual versus Houston Christian.
Lewis will head into the final round on Monday five strokes off the leader, Abbey Schutte of Arkansas who is the No. 33 ranked individual in the nation.
As a team, North Texas shot a 573 (-3) through 36 holes and is in ninth place ahead of programs such as No. 29 Iowa State and No. 44 Michigan. Throughout the two rounds UNT jockeyed for positioning with No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 26 Kansas State, Purdue and Michigan State for positions six through 10 as Lewis carried the Mean Green.
North Texas' Bouquet Subomboon and Malisone Chanthapanya each shot a 145 (+1) through the first two rounds as they are the Mean Green's next two lowest scorers. Chanthapanya was -1 on the second round to help lift UNT one stroke ahead of the host Boilermakers.
UNT will tee of early Monday morning at 5:30 AM CT / 7:30 AM AST. There is potential rain in the forecast for Monday.
