Laydner and Chalard each win opening sets of matches before abandonment
DENTON, Texas – The UNT tennis program dropped a match 4-0 Sunday against TCU at Waranch Tennis Complex.
Carolina Laydner and Lou Chalard each won their opening sets of their respective matches at lines one and two before the match was called to highlight the day full of tight battles for the Mean Green.
With the win, TCU improved to 3-1 on the season while UNT dropped to 3-3.
In doubles play, the Horned Frogs grabbed a pair of 6-2 victories at lines one and three to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
Then in singles, Chalard and Laydner both played tightly contested opening sets.
At line one, Chalard found herself in a 6-6 tiebreak best of seven and trailing 6-2 in the tiebreaker. The junior from France did not blink, however, rattling off six consecutive points to win the tiebreak 8-6 and the set 7-6. Chalard trailed 4-3 in the second set when the match was abandoned.
At line two, Laydner picked up a strong 6-4 victory in the opening set but dropped the second to force a third set tiebreak that ultimately went unplayed.
Elsewhere in the match, TCU grabbed victories at lines three, five and six to sweep the match 4-0.
UNT will return to action Saturday, Feb. 14 when they host LA Tech and Weatherford College in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM.
