Mean Green drop match for first time in nearly three weeks
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The UNT tennis team saw its six-match win streak come to an end Saturday as they fell 4-0 in a neutral site matchup against Tulane at the Hoover Met Tennis Center.
The six consecutive wins for the Mean Green marked a new high under head coach Amanda Stone and was the longest since UNT also won six straight in 2013 en route to the C-USA Tournament title and their last appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
With the loss, North Texas drops to 9-5 overall this season while Tulane improves to 7-6 with the win.
To start the day in doubles action, the Green Wave took home a 6-1 win at line one and a 6-4 victory at line two to pick up the doubles point.
In singles play, the Mean Green were much closer than the final score indicated in the match. UNT held leads at lines one, three and four that were all abandoned before their conclusion when Tulane picked up their fourth point.
At line one, Lou Chalard took the opening set in a thriller 7-6 (9-7). At line three, meanwhile, Pia Petelinsek split her opening two sets 6-0, 2-6 and held a 4-1 advantage when her match was abandoned.
Finally, Marina Adati was the closest to victory as she won her opening set 7-5 and held a 5-1 lead in the second at line four.
Tulane ultimately came up with the 4-0 victory, however, with wins at lines two, five and six to take home the match.
UNT will return to action Wednesday to kick off a string of five consecutive home matches. The Mean Green will host Butler at 9:00 AM before taking on Oral Roberts at 4:00 PM at the Waranch Tennis Complex on March 11th.
