Soccer Announces Schedule for 2026 Season

DENTON — The UNT soccer team will play 12 home matches and a full slate of 20 total matches, as the program released its 2026 schedule on Tuesday for what will be head coach John Hedlund's 32nd and final season at the helm of the program he started.
The Mean Green will face all 10 American Conference opponents, and will have a non-conference slate with marquee matchups at SMU (August 16), and at home against Air Force (August 20) and Oklahoma (September 3). Perennial top-10 conference foe Memphis will visit Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium on October 25 in the second-to-last home match of the season.
UNT won't play an exhibition and will open the season at home on August 6 against Tarleton State and will host Navarro on August 13 before its first road tilt at SMU. Six of the team's first eight matches will be at home with the other road contest set for August 23 at McNeese, and its new head coach Alexsis Cable, who played for the Mean Green and spent the last handful of years as Hedlund's top assistant.
The Mean Green will hit the road for their final non-conference match as they travel to Chicago to take on DePaul on September 13 before returning to Denton to open American Conference play on September 17 against South Florida. The final home match of the season will be on October 30 against UTSA before the Mean Green finish the regular season on the road at Tulsa on November 3.
Hedlund, who founded the program in 1995 and has been its only head coach, announced following the 2025 season that he would retire after the 2026 season ended. He enters the season with a 406-168-55 career record. His 406 wins puts him eighth among active DI head coaches and 20th all-time.
Olympic Sport Passes for the 2026-27 season that include admission to UNT women's soccer and volleyball are on sale now through the Mean Green Ticket Office. Olympic Sport Passes are available in two levels at $80 (general admission) and $125 (includes reserved seating at soccer). Purchaser qualifies for one ticket to each regular season home event for women's soccer and volleyball.
