Five Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

DENTON — Five Mean Green track and field athletes were named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The honor, which is reserved for those with at least a 3.50 GPA and who ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA South Central region in cross country, Indoor season or Outdoor season, highlights both academic performance and performance in their respective events.
Seniors Fabrienne Foster and London Maxwell, juniors Connor Bartek and Jason Patrick and sophomore Joseph Wienen all earned the All-District recognition.
Foster earned a Masters in Health Informatics with a 4.0 GPA and won the conference championship in the women's weight throw with a throw of 19.57 meters to help the Mean Green to the team championship at the American Conference Indoor Championships in February. She had a pair of top 8 finishes at the American Conference Outdoor Championships in May, finishing sixth in discus and eighth in hammer throw. Her best in the Indoor shot put put her 33rd in the region, and her best weight throw put her 7th in the region. She ranked 27th in Outdoor shot put, 21st in discus and 16th in the hammer throw in the region.
Maxwell earned her Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis with a 4.0 GPA and leaves UNT as one of the most decorated distance runners in program history. She repeated as the women's Outdoor 1,500 meter champ in May and also won the Indoor mile to help the Mean Green to a team title at the American Indoor Championships in February, when she also took third in the women's 3,000 meters. Her best time this year in the Indoor mile (4:48.60) put her 26th in the region. Her 9:22.60 in the 3,000 put her 14th in the region.
Bartek, who is studying kinesiology and is carrying a 3.977 GPA, had the 38th best time in the NCAA South Central region in the 3,000 meters (8:20.28), and the 19th best time in the region in the 5,000 with a 14:24.22. He is joined on the men's side by fellow distance runner Joseph Wienen. The mechanical engineering major with a 3.517 GPA qualified for his performance in the fall in cross country, when he finished top 50 (48th) at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship with a 10K time of 31:41.2.
Jason Patrick, an Arts and Applied Sciences major with a 3.686 GPA, is coming off a strong year that saw him win the American Conference Outdoor Championship in the hammer, and his throws in hammer and discus put him 7th in the region in both events. He also qualified with his weight throw of 18.73 meters at the American Indoor Championships, which put him 14th in the region.
