Team Effort Leads Volleyball to Road Win at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Several standout performances led the UNT volleyball team to an intense four-set (27-25, 26-28, 26-24, 25-17) victory at Stephen F. Austin on Friday night.
With the win, North Texas snapped its three-match losing streak and improved to 4-3 on the season.
Friday's action went back and forth for most of the evening as each of the first three sets were decided in extra points. After splitting the opening two sets, UNT captured the momentum for good when it was down 24-22 and rattled off four straight points to secure the game. The Mean Green then continued that push into the fourth, where it clinched the match with a resounding 25-17 victory.
Despite 17 service errors, the Mean Green offense proved to be a key differentiator in the match as it accumulated season highs in kills (65) and assists (61) on a .270 hitting percentage. Defensively, North Texas limited the Ladyjacks to just a .164 hitting percentage through 69 digs and six blocks.
The offensive effort was paced by Jahniya Jackson, Reagan Bedell and Jocelyn Jourdan, who each completed the night with 14 kills apiece. Jackson has now led the Mean Green in kills six times in seven matches and added 11 digs on defense for her second double-double of the season. The 14 kills for Bedell marked a new season-high, while Jourdan did so on just 23 swings for a .435 hitting percentage.
Outside hitter Lillian Croshaw also contributed 11 kills on the night, giving North Texas four players with 10+ kills in the same match for a second time this season.
Playing in just her seventh career match, Olivia Branum continued her stellar freshman campaign with 26 kills and 15 digs. She leads the team with three double-doubles on the year. Meanwhile, libero Alessandra Romo compiled 13 digs and 11 assists for her first career double-double and the third by a Mean Green player on Friday.
Setter Sidney Soria nearly made it four double-doubles thanks to an outstanding 21-assist, nine-dig performance.
North Texas concludes its long weekend at the Texas Challenge tomorrow morning against Texas State. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
