In 2024, Bloesch served as the Golden Bears'Â offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. Bloesch was Cal's offensive line coach/run game coordinator during the 2023 regular season before being elevated in December of 2023 prior to the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl.
Under his watch, Bloesch helped the Golden Bears earn a bowl berth in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2018-19.
Â
In 2024, Bloesch helped the Cal offense average 358.2 yards per game en route to an appearance in the Art of Sport LA Bowl. The Golden Bears offense was one of the best at taking care of the football with just 11 turnovers lost in 13 games, the 15th-fewest in FBS.
Â
The offense had huge big-play potential with 10 plays of 50+ yards on the year, tied for the 17th-most in FBS.
Â
In his first season at Cal, Bloesch served as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach and was largely credited with the improvement of an offensive line that helped the running game average of 172.8 yards per game, its highest mark since 2012.
Â
The OL helped open running room for breakout RB Jaydn Ott, who paced the Pac-12 and ranked among the nation's best in all-purpose yards per game (135.67, 6th in FBS), rushing yards per game (109.6, 9th in FBS) and rushing yards (1315,14th in FBS), while also tying for second in the league with 15 total touchdowns (T-19th in FBS) and 12 rushing touchdowns (T29th in FBS).
Â
He also engineered Cal's improvements in protecting the quarterback, improving from 10th to fourth in the Pac-12 in per game sacks allowed (2.58 to 1.77).
Prior to being on staff at Cal, Bloesch was on staff at North Texas from 2020-22. Bloesch was promoted to offensive coordinator and primary play caller ahead of the 2021 season and moved to quarterbacks coach in February 2022. Bloesch was originally named the Mean Green’s co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in January 2020.
In 2022, Bloesch helped UNT clinch a spot in the Conference USA Championship game and earn an appearance in the Frisco Bowl. The Mean Green led Conference USA in fewest per-game sacks allowed (0.79, 5th FBS) and tackles for loss allowed (4.07, 13th FBS).
Â
North Texas also paced C-USA in 2022 in passing yards per completion (15.22, No. 4 NCAA), and ranked third in total offense (461.8, No. 21 NCAA), scoring offense (33.8, No. 27 NCAA) and team passing efficiency (145.65, No. 34 NCAA).
Â
Bloesch’s offense produced a pair of 2022 first-team All-Conference USA selections in TE Var’Keyes Gumms (34-458, 5 TD) and OL Manase Mose while QB Austin Aune led the nation in with an average of 15.29 passing yards per completion and also posted top-20 national rankings for passing touchdowns (33, No. 8T), passing yards (3,547, No. 17), yards per pass attempt (8.63, No. 17) and points responsible for (206, No. 19).
In 2021, Bloesch directed one of the nation’s leading rushing attacks and mentored one of the best offensive line units in the country. The Mean Green finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally in rushing offense (234.1 ypg) as DeAndre Torrey rushed for 1,215 yards on the year, the seventh-best single season total in UNT history.
Behind an offensive line that allowed only 15 sacks, the eighth fewest in FBS, the Mean Green rushed for 32 touchdowns on the season. That total is the second most for a UNT team and the most since 1951’s program record 33.
Bloesch served as a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2020, his first season in Denton, helping guide the Mean Green to the eighth-ranked total offense in the nation in 2020, averaging 513.2 yards per game, and averaged 6.59 yards per play (22nd-best in FBS). Bloesch, while leading a major turnaround along the offensive line, helped guide the Mean Green to 34.4 points per game, which ranked 23rd in the country. UNT's passing attack ranked 25th in the country at 283.0 yards per game, and the rushing attack ranked 13th nationally at 230.2 yards per game. Senior wide receiver Jaelon Darden had an All-America season, earning honors from every major outlet/awards group at either first or second team levels. Darden caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns in just nine games and was named the Conference USA Most Valuable Player.
Bloesch spent five seasons on The University of Tulsa coaching staff from 2015-19, the last four as offensive line coach. He joined Tulsa ahead of the 2015 season as the offensive quality control coach and was promoted to offensive line coach in December of that year prior to Tulsa’s appearance in the Camping World Independence Bowl.
His first full season as Tulsa’s offensive line coach was 2016. Bloesch’s front line paved the way for a Hurricane offense that set a school record with eight 300+ rushing games, which was also the second-most 300+ rushing games in the NCAA in 2016. It was an offense that also set an NCAA record by becoming the first FBS/DI school to have a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard rushers and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same season.
Bloesch coached four offensive linemen to seven American Athletic Conference honors during his tenure. In 2016, Tulsa’s Blake Belcher and Chandler Miller earned first-team all-league honors, while Tyler Bowling and Evan Plagg were second-team honorees. Miller and Bowling repeated as all-conference selections in 2017, while Bowling, despite missing six games with an injury, earned his third all-conference recognition in 2018.
Before coming to Tulsa, Bloesch spent the 2014 season as a football analyst at his alma mater, the University of Houston. In his role, Bloesch was responsible for providing analytical support for the offensive coaching staff including video breakdown, self and opponent scouting, game day support and analysis of the football program.
Previously, Bloesch spent three seasons (2011-13) as the offensive coordinator at Temple High School. In his three seasons with the Wildcats, Bloesch helped lead the program to a 19-13 record, capturing the District 8-5A championship in 2013, while averaging 44 points and 512 offensive yards per game. He also served as the school's Powerlifting head coach, Middle School Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator.
Bloesch began his coaching career as the offensive line coach at Abilene Cooper High School in 2009. In two years, Cooper captured the District 4-4A championship in 2009 and District 3-5A championship in 2010. Cooper had a combined record of 20-6 in Bloesch's two seasons, while setting school records for most points (528) and most offensive yards in a season (6,040) in 2010.
As a player at Houston, Bloesch started 37 consecutive games at offensive guard from 2006-08, while helping lead the Cougars to their first bowl victory in 28 years. He earned Conference USA honorable mention all-conference honors in 2007 and 2008.
Bloesch received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology-Sports Administration from Houston and a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University in 2013. Bloesch and his wife Lexi have two children, Beau and Drew.
