Doug Waters was announced as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in August of 2022, returning to the state of Texas after working at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, N.J. Waters serves as the primary sport contact for Mean Green football and women's tennis.
In his time with the Peacocks, Waters served as the main sport contact for the men's basketball, women's volleyball and softball programs. Waters was the primary contact for the Peacocks during the 2021-22 campaign that saw SPU become the first #15 seed in NCAA Tournament history to advance to the Elite Eight, defeating #2 Kentucky, #7 Murray State and #3 Purdue along the way. During the run, Waters oversaw the Peacocks men's basketball social media pages that exploded onto the national scene, generating the 12th-most interactions among all NCAA Division I programs in March of 2022 and the 21st-most interactions in April 2022.
In December of 2022, Waters was selected to the inaugural class of the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) 30 Under 30, a program that honors up-and-coming athletic communications professionals throughout the CSC membership. Candidates are considered based on achievement in areas of professional success, impact on their athletic department/conference office and/ or service to CSC.
Prior to his time at Saint Peter's, Waters spent two and a half years at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., serving as the primary contact for 12 of the Ducks' 26 NCAA sponsored sports.
Before moving to the Northeast, Waters was the Sports Information Graduate Assistant for the Concordia University Texas athletic department.
Prior to his time with Concordia, Waters served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Oklahoma City University. In his one year at OCU, the Stars took home the 2016-17 Learfield Director's Cup title as the top overall athletic department in the NAIA.
As an undergraduate, Waters was a student manager for the University of Texas baseball program for three years, including serving as the head student manager in the 2015-16 season. The Longhorns were extremely successful in Waters’ three year tenure, going to the College World Series and finishing as the No. 3 team in the country in 2014 while also winning the Big 12 Tournament title in 2015.
Waters is an active member of CSCÂ and currently serves as a member of the Publications and Digital Designs Contest Committee.Â
Originally from Diboll, Texas, Waters graduated from UT Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism in 2016 and achieved his Master’s in Education in Sports Administration from Concordia in 2019.
