Volleyball Smashes Attendance Record in Defeat to No. 17 Florida

DENTON, Texas – The UNT volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 26-28, 16-25) to 17th-ranked Florida in front of a record crowd Sunday afternoon at the Super Pit.
With 2,377 fans in attendance, the Mean Green crushed their previous program record of 1,414 set against Miami (FL) back on Sept. 1, 2024. That match was also played at the Super Pit.
"I've just been blown away [by the fan support] ever since I've been at North Texas," head coach Dave Fleming said. "I thought that was an awesome crowd. Loud and into it, and we gave them the opportunity to be. Just really happy with that and I give all the credit to the athletes. I think we're a lot of fun to watch."
North Texas (3-2, 0-0 American) battled the Gators hard throughout the afternoon, especially in a second set that saw 17 tied scores, had seven lead changes and was sent into extra points. Ultimately, the Florida defense was able seize control of the match as it limited UNT to just a .038 hitting percentage through 47 digs and a dozen blocks.
"We knew Florida was a big challenge coming in," Fleming said. "I think set two kind of showed the way we want to play all year. That's a huge benefit for us if we can push for that in practice all the time."
For the fourth time this season, Jahniya Jackson led the team in kills with nine alongside six digs. Addison Achilles also had a productive afternoon as she compiled four kills, three service aces and a pair of blocks.
UNT looks to get back in the win column next weekend when it travels to the Texas Challenge in Nacogdoches, Texas. It will begin action there against UT Arlington on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT.
