Mean Green Volleyball Falls To Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY (9/28/01) - Despite taking the first game off Western Kentucky (8-4, 2-0) and almost taking a two-game lead into the break, the North Texas volleyball team (6-8, 1-2) fell to the Lady Toppers on Friday night by a 3-1 score.
North Texas captured game one, 31-29, and fought WKU to a 33-35 game-two loss. However, the Lady Toppers took control of the match after that point, winning games three and four by 30-16 and 30-24 scores, respectively. The Mean Green’s hitting percentage dropped from .226 in game one and .340 in game two, to just .154 in game three and .162 in game four. It was the seventh time this season the Mean Green has won game one.
"We made too many errors tonight and anytime we got any momentum built up, Western Kentucky would take it away," said North Texas head coach Cassie Headrick. "We fought pretty hard, but just couldn’t put it together tonight."
The Lady Toppers came out strong and remained strong the entire match. They posted a kill percentage below .300 in only one game and only had 22 errors in 182 attempts for a .335 kill percentage. The Mean Green hit .233 for the entire match.
North Texas had three sophomore’s post a double-double in the match. Corina Marginas (OH; Brasov, Romania) had a team-high 21 kills and 10 digs, Brieanne Fowler (OH; Odessa, Tex.) had 13 kills and a team-best 18 digs and Kristin Sheppard (S; Texarkana, Tex.) had a team-best 16 assists and 12 digs.
The loss drops UNT’s Sun Belt Conference record to 1-2.
The Mean Green will play at UL Lafayette on Sunday in a 2 p.m. match.
