North Texas Volleyball Improves To 3-1 In Conference

DENVER, Colo. (10/6/02) The North Texas volleyball team (8-12, 3-1) defeated Denver 3-1 (30-23, 26-30, 30-18, 30-25) on Sunday in a Sun Belt Conference match.
Corina Marginas pounded a match-high 24 kills to lead a North Texas offensive attack that produced 67 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. North Texas hit at least .200 in all four games and recorded more kills, assists, digs and service aces than the Pioneers.
Denver posted a .182 attack percentage for the entire match, but failed to hit over .100 in the first and third games.
North Texas’ Brittney Gregory also tallied double figure kills with 11 and Kristin Sheppard put together her eighth double-double of the season with 53 assists and 12 digs. Senior libero Andrea Hansel led the Mean Green defensively with a match-high 17 digs.
The Mean Green has now won three of its last four matches and is staring down a four-match home stand over the next two weeks. With the victory, North Texas extended its winning streak against the Pioneers to three matches. Denver was the Sun Belt Conference’s West Division champion for the 2000 season.
North Texas’ next match will be against New Orleans this Friday, Oct. 11. The match will be played at the Snake Pit and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
