Mean Green Handed 82-56 Loss At Baylor

WACO (12/30/02) Behind the strength of 13 three-point field goals, Baylor (7-2) defeated the North Texas men’s basketball team (5-6) 82-56 Monday at the Ferrell Center in front of a crowd of 6,751.
Baylor shot 46 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 13-of-28 three-point attempts. Kenny Taylor led the Bears long-range attack with seven trey’s for 21 of his 23 points. North Texas was able to connect on just two of their 17 three-point attempts for a season-low .118 percentage.
Baylor didn’t just shoot the ball well from behind the three-point line, however. The Bears hit 49 percent of all its shots and 81 percent of its free throw attempts. The Mean Green struggled to find its shot, posting a .356 percentage from the field.
The Mean Green jumped out to an early 9-8 lead, but Baylor used a 23-2 run at that point to surge ahead 31-11 with 7:23 remaining in the first half. The Bears built their lead to 25 (46-21) at halftime and North Texas was unable to get any closer than 22 in the second half.
Junior forward Michael DeGrate was the only North Texas player to score in double figures with 13 points and he also led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.
The Mean Green will be back in action Jan. 2 at Auburn (7 p.m.).
