Corina Marginas (Brasov, Romania), a junior outside hitter on the North Texas volleyball team, was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday (Sept. 30) after leading the Mean Green to a 2-0 start in league play last week.
Marginas averaged 5.0 kills per game after finishing the week with 60 total, including a match-high 27 in North Texas' 3-2 victory over UL Lafayette. Her 27 kills against the Ragin' Cajuns marked the ninth time this season she has produced at least 20 kills in a match, which is the most in the Sun Belt Conference. Marginas led North Texas in kills against Middle Tennessee and SMU as well, recording 18 against the Blue Raiders and 15 against the Mustangs.
She picked up her eighth double-double of the season against SMU with a match-high 19 digs to go along with her 15 kills. The junior standout hit a combined .280, including a .365 percentage against UL Lafayette. Marginas piled up 37 digs, six blocks, five service aces and four assists for the entire week.
Although this is the first time this year Marginas has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week, she won the award twice last season on her way to being named a Unanimous Selection First-Team All-Sun Belt player. Marginas was named the 2000 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and holds the North Texas school record for kills in a career with 1,366 to her credit.
