DENTON (10/17/03) - The North Texas men's basketball team has announced the lineups for Saturday's "Mid-Day Madness" green and white scrimmage, along with the participants in the slam dunk and three-point contests at the Super Pit.
The festivities are set to get under way at 12:30 p.m. before the North Texas homecoming football game against Utah State. Following the introduction of the 2003-04 North Texas basketball team, the three-point and dunk contests will be held prior to the scrimmage.
Will Smith, Marqus Mitchell, Mark Wilson, Calvin Watson and Ty Thomas will compete in the dunk contest, which will give each player 1:30 to complete three dunks that will be scored by a panel of judges. Competing in the three-point contest will be Jerome Rogers, Scott Roniger, Marqus Mitchell, Michael DeGrate and Michael Jones. The competition will last one minute per player and the player that hits the most three's during that time will be declared the champion.
The Green & White Scrimmage will last roughly 20-25 minutes. The lineup for the Green team includes Rogers, Wilson, Jones, DeGrate, Smith and Watson. Playing for the White team will be Mitchell, Thomas, Ron Harris, Roniger, Shawnson Johnson and Justin Barnett.
October 18 is the first official day NCAA Division I basketball teams can practice. North Texas fans will get a chance to watch the third-year head coach Johnny Jones and the team as the Mean Green prepares for the upcoming 2003-04 season.
The Mean Green will host Northwestern Oklahoma State in its season opener on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., but has two exhibition games scheduled for Nov. 6 and Nov. 14. Both exhibition games are doubleheaders with the women's team and are set to tip at 8 p.m.
