Johnson Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

DENTON (12/22/03) North Texas senior forward Shawnson Johnson was named the Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in two games last week.
Johnson, a transfer from LSU, recorded a double-double against both UT-Pan American and St. Bonaventure. He scored 20 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead North Texas to an overtime victory over the Broncs. He followed the performance up with another solid outing against St. Bonaventure, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks against the Bonnies.
He posted a .667 shooting percentage for the week, hitting 9-14 shots against UTPA and 9-13 shots at St. Bonaventure. Johnson’s five blocks against St. Bonaventure tie the third most in a single game in school history. He now has two double-doubles in three games played and recorded 40 points, 24 rebounds and nine blocks for both games combined last week.
