Basketball Opens 2004-05 Season In Doubleheader Action Tonight

Both the men's and women's basketball teams open up their seasons tonight in doubleheader action in the Super Pit. The Mean Green women's team opens the doubleheader with a matchup against the Binghamton Bearcats from New York at 5 pm, and the men will play next against Angelo State.

The NT women are coming off a 1-1 exhibition season. North Texas will play four of its first five games on the road to begin the season.This is only the second matchup between North Texas and Binghamton. The Bearcats defeated North Texas last season in the championship game of the Time Warner Classic 59-57 in the only meeting between the two teams.

North Texas has a record of 17-11 in season openers. The Mean Green has a 9-5 record at home to begin the season and under Tina Slinker North Texas is 8-7 in season openers. North Texas has had recent success beginning the year as it is 7-2 in the past nine opening contests.

The NT men, coming off a 74-63 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State in its second exhibition game, will host Angelo State. The Mean Green ended its preseason 2-0, also defeating Cameron 91-67 in its first exhibition contest.

The North Texas men’s basketball program enters its 87th season in 2004-05, owning a 902-1087 all-time record. Johnny Jones was named North Texas’ 16th coach on April 16, 2001, and is set for his fourth season with the Mean Green.
