Men's Basketball Hosts In-State Rival TCU Tonight

The North Texas men's basketball team hosts TCU tonight in the final outing of the three-game homestand. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Super Pit. Every regular-season North Texas game can be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
The Mean Green (3-1) is looking to win its seventh straight game at home, dating back to last season. After falling 62-58 at TCU last season, North Texas now holds a 31-42 all-time record against the Horned Frogs since the first meeting on Dec. 4, 1916. The Mean Green and TCU have played in each of Johnny Jones’ three seasons as head coach at North Texas. NT defeated the Horned Frogs in Jones’ first season at North Texas, but has dropped the last two meetings. The Mean Green’s victory over TCU in the 2001-02 season was its first over the Horned Frogs in more than a decade.
North Texas and TCU have a history together. The Mean Green actually played the Horned Frogs in its first-ever game at the Super Pit on Dec. 4, 1973. NT won the game 109-93 and has since played TCU seven more times at the Super Pit, holding a 5-2 record in those games. NT’s head coach in the first-ever game at theSuper Pit was Gene Robbins, while TCU was coached by Johnny Swain. Billy Tubbs, who went on to be the head coach at TCU from 1994-2002, was an assistant coach for North Texas in the game.
North Texas received four votes in the latest collegeinsider.com’s Mid-Major Top-25 poll, which is made up of teams from different 22 conferences. The Mean Green is one of three Sun Belt teams to receive votes, joining Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee. WesternKentucky is currently No. 22 in the poll.
