Home of North Texas Volleyball Team
The University of North Texas volleyball team has played its home matches in the Snake Pit since it was refurbished in 1992. A new air conditioning and heating system and a state-of-the-art exercise room were added in 1993. The gym floor also received a facelift.
Built in 1950, the Snake Pit and its screaming fans were legendary in Missouri Valley Conference basketball circles when the Eagles competed in the league from 1957-75. The gym is now solely the home of the North Texas volleyball team.
Through the years, many legends have competed at the Snake Pit, including NBA Hall of Famers Oscar Robertson and Wes Unseld. Rita Crockett, a 1984 Olympic volleyball silver medalist, also called the gym home while playing at North Texas.
