Mean Green post a department semester GPA of 3.48
DENTON, Texas – The UNT athletic department reached new heights in the classroom once again in the Spring semester as it set a new program record with a 3.48 spring semester grade-point average.
The remarkable gains in the classroom efforts are a representative of the hard work put in by the student-athletes as well as by the UNT athletics Academics and Student Services team led by Senior Associate AD Suzanne Dickenson.
"Setting a new department record with a 3.48 semester GPA is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the culture our student-athletes continue to build at UNT," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley. "Our student-athletes have shown an incredible commitment to excellence in the classroom while balancing the demands of competition at the highest level. I'm especially proud of the work being done by our Academics and Student Services staff, led by Suzanne Dickenson, whose dedication, mentorship and daily support play a vital role in helping our students succeed. This achievement is something the entire Mean Green family can celebrate."
The Mean Green had success across the board with every team on campus earning above a 3.20 semester GPA and a cumulative GPA over a 3.0. It is just the second time in program history UNT has met those marks across the board as a department. In addition, 10 teams posted both semester and cumulative GPAs over a 3.4.
As a team, the women's golf program had the highest team GPA of any team in the department with a 3.88 GPA. It marks the seventh consecutive semester the women's golf team has led the way at North Texas.
The UNT football and women's track and field programs, both coming off extremely successful competition seasons, also exceled in the classroom as they both earned their highest semester GPAs in program history. Football posted a 3.35 team GPA while women's track and field earned a 3.54 GPA. Men's basketball (3.21), women's basketball (3.38), women's cross country (3.76), men's track and field (3.39), women's track and field (3.54) and swimming and diving (3.67) all posted their highest spring semester GPAs in program history as well.
All 14 teams also had a semester GPA of 3.0 or better for at least the second straight semester. The tennis program has the longest active streak with 29 straight 3.0 or better semesters while swimming has 24, soccer has 21 and women's cross country has 20.
Individually, 274 (87%) of UNT student-athletes achieved a 3.0 or better for the semester. A total of 52 student-athletes were named to the President's List (4.0), 107 earned a spot on the Dean's List (3.5-3.99) and 115 were recognized on the AD Honor Roll.
