Mean Green Drops 3-1 Decision At Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (9/25/04) -- The North Texas volleyball team (2-11, 1-1) took the first game from Middle Tennessee (5-8, 1-1), but dropped the next three in a 30-25, 27-30, 22-30, 20-30 setback on Sunday at Alumni Memorial Gym in its second Sun Belt Conference match of the season.
The Mean Green, coming off a 3-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday, got off to a good start against Middle Tennessee with a 30-25 victory in the first game. The Mean Green posted its best single-game hitting percentage at .275 and recorded a match-high 18 kills in the first game.
However, the Mean Green was unable to hit over .129 in any of the three remaining games and finished with an overall attack percentage of .146. In contrast, the Blue Raiders hit at least .312 in two of the last three games and recorded a .277 overall attack percentage.
Senior middle blocker Anne Pope led North Texas with a career-high 16 kills and team-high .353 attack percentage. Brittney Gregory joined Pope in double-figure kills with 12, giving her 907 kills for her career and making her just the fifth player in school history to record 900 or more kills.
Heidi Johnson posted a team-high 42 assists, while Taylor Lawrence led North Texas defensively with 10 digs.
Middle Tennessee had two players pile up at least 20 kills, led by Dara McLean with 24. The rest of the Blue Raiders had just 12 kills between them.
North Texas remains on the road next weekend, playing at Denver on Friday and at New Mexico State on Sunday in Sun Belt Conference West Division matches.
