Oral Roberts Works Past Mean Green, 3-0

DENTON (10/20/05) -- The North Texas volleyball team (8-16) suffered a 30-14, 31-29, 30-24 setback against Oral Roberts (14-8) on Thursday night at the Snake Pit in its final non-conference match of the regular season.
The Mean Green hit just .075 and finished with 33 kills, while the Golden Eagles hit .168 and recorded 47 kills. ORU posted just six more digs and one more block than NT, but North Texas was hurt by seven reception errors and eight service errors.
North Texas fell behind 13-8 early in the first game before Oral Roberts opened up a double-figure lead at 19-9. The Mean Green posted a team-high .111 attack percentage in the second game and led 27-23 late, but the Golden Eagles went on an 8-2 run to pick up the win. While NT kept the third game close for a while as well and held a 22-21 advantage at one point, it was outscored 9-2 the rest of the way.
Katy Prokof was the only Mean Green player to post double-figure kills, finishing with 12. The sophomore outside hitter has now recorded double-digit kills in 10 of NT’s last 13 matches. Freshman middle blocker Catherine Coffey followed Prokof with seven kills and tallied a career-high five solo blocks.
Sophomore setter Ashley Bass collected her fourth double-double of the year with a team-best 29 assists and 11 digs. Jessica Hulsebosch also finished with 11 digs, marking the 22nd time this season she has posted double-figure digs.
Oral Roberts was led by two players with at least 14 kills, including Jackie Oliveira with 15. Ori Zuzic recorded four of the Golden Eagles seven service aces.
North Texas remains at home for its next match, hosting Sun Belt Conference opponent Florida International on Sunday at 1 p.m.
