Mean Green Volleyball Signs All-State Standout Heather Maddox

DENTON (11/11/05) -- North Texas volleyball head coach Cassie Headrick has announced that Heather Maddox, a 5-8 setter from Boerne, Texas, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mean Green next season.
Maddox was a starter both seasons she played at Boerne High School and has been very involved in club competition. Maddox was First Team All-Distrcit 28-4A selection as both a junior and season and named First Team All-State as a junior. In addition, she was tabbed All-Area, All-City and Honorable Mention Lone Star Volleyball Setter of the Year in 2004.
She led the Greyhounds to the state semifinals in 2004 with a 29-11 record and to the playoffs again in 2005. Maddox was a big part of Boerne High School’s 2005 preseason ranking as the No.3 team in the area by the San Antonio Express News.
A team captain her senior season at Boerne, Maddox averaged 5.2 assists and 5.1 kills per year. As a junior she averaged 9.5 assists and 0.91 aces per game.
"Heather is a phenomenal athlete," said Boerne head coach Troy Errington. "She brings a great deal of athleticism, poise and maturity to the table. She is a great leader and she was key to our run to the state semifinals last year. Heather is a total team player."
In club competition, Maddox was a 2004 USAV High Performance camp selectee and helped lead the Alamo Volleyball Club to a third-place finish at the 16’s Open USAV Jr. Olympics. In 2003, she was a part of the Alamo Volleyball Club that won the 15’s Open USAV Jr. Olympics national championship. Maddox currently plays for Centex Volleyball Club.
"Heather is a physical, quick and athletic setter," said North Texas head coach Cassie Headrick. "She has been a part of very successful club and high school programs and knows what it takes to elevate a team to the next level. She is a gifted athlete that has natural setter instincts. We are really excited about having her as a part of our team in 06 and also excited to see the contributions that Heather can make off the court here at North Texas."
