Sun Belt Conference Tournament Underway!

DENTON (3/4/05) - The first session of the Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament is complete, and the North Texas men's basketball team will open the second session of the day at 5:30 pm against Arkansas State in the Super Pit.
The FIU men's and women's teams both won their opening games. The women defeated New Mexico State, 48-45, while the men beat South Alabama, 60-57. The Middle Tennessee women held New Orleans to a tournament record low 30 points in a 73-30 victory for the Lady Raiders. The Arkansas Little-Rock women defeated Denver, 50-48, in other first-round action.
The North Texas men finished the regular season with a 14-13 record, topping its total wins for all of last season by one victory. The Mean Green finished Sun Belt Conference play with a 6-9 record and tied for fourth in the final standings with South Alabama, but drew the No. 5 seed for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Tonight’s meeting will be the 22nd ever meeting between North Texas and Arkansas State, which played each other for the first time during the 1963-64 season. Arkansas State leads the all-time series 13-8. The Mean Green’s eight wins over the Indians is its most over any opponent currently in the Sun Belt Conference. ASU won the first meeting this season, 73-70 in Denton.
