DENTON (3/6/05) - Both the men's and women's teams from Western Kentucky and Louisiana-Lafayette advanced to the semifinals after three days of action at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Sunday at the Super Pit.
On the men's side, top-seeded Denver will face No. 2 Western Kentucky in the first semifinal action on Monday night. The Toppers defeated New Orleans, 78-67, in the second session of Sunday's games. Louisiana-Lafayette, the No. 2 seed in the West, defeated Middle Tennessee, to advance to the second semifinal action against fifth-seeded FIU.
The Middle Tennessee women defeated North Texas in overtime, 59-58, to advance to the semifinals against top-seeded Western Kentucky. Second-seeded Arkansas State went on a 20-0 run at the end of its game against South Alabama to steal a 61-53 victory. The Indians will face Louisiana-Lafayette, the No. 1 seed in the West, in the first semifinal on Monday morning at 11 am.
