Golf Teams Close Out In Style At Sun Belt Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (4/20/05) - The North Texas golf teams saved their best for last, as both the men and women’s teams posted their best scores of the tournament in the third and final round at the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Golf Championship from the PGA Village.
The men’s team fired a 298, paced by junior’s Andreas Kali and Jason Lindgren, who both shot rounds of 1-over par 73. Lindgren finished with back-to-back rounds of 1-over par and posted a three-round score of 224.
“I was proud of the way that our guys battled out there and finished with our best round of the tournament,” said
Freshman Anthony Broussard finished tied with Lindgren after a final round of 77 to close out at 224. Broussard and Lindgren finished tied for 16th place. Kali shot his best round of the tournament and had a three-round score of 228 to finish tied for 25th.
Raul Lemus ended his tournament with a 15-foot birdie and shot a final round of 75. Lemus finished tied for 35th place with a three-round score of 232. Senior Reid McPherson, who battled an illness throughout the week, shot a final round of 78.
On the women’s side freshman Lauren Cheves had the second best round of her career with a 1-over par 73 in the final round. Cheves final round push moved her into a tied for 23rd place for the tournament with a three-round score of 238.
Junior Andra Lancaster was as strong as Cheves in the final round with a 2-over par 74.
Cheves and Lancaster’s rounds were the catalyst for
Halli Richards shot a final round of 82 and finished in 41st place. Jaclyn Golden and Paige Padgett posted final round scores of 83. Golden shot 243 for the tournament and ended in a tie for 32nd place while Padgett shot a 251 and finished in a tie for 43rd place.
