WICHITA, Kan. (9/13/05) -- The North Texas volleyball team (2-9) had a two-match winning streak snapped Tuesday night, dropping a 3-0 (22-30, 25-30, 14-30) decision to Wichita State (6-2) in the first of six consecutive road matches for the Mean Green.
The Mean Green built some momentum late last week with back-to-back matches in which it hit at least .200, but it managed just a .106 attack percentage against the Shockers. The Mean Green finished the match with 32 kills, while Wichita State recorded 53 and posted a .348 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter Tara Hooser tallied a team-high eight kills and was followed by Brooke Engel and Erica Wendell with seven and six, respectively. Wendell finished the match with a team-high .500 hitting percentage, but was the only Mean Green player to hit over .250 for the match.
Rachel Raley collected a team-best 10 digs, marking the third time this season the freshman outside hitter has posted double-figure digs. Sophomore Jessica Hulsebosch did not reach double-digit digs for the first time this year, finishing the match with eight.
Wichita State was led by two players with double-figure kills, including Sara Lungren with a match-high 11.
The Mean Green will play in its final regular-season tournament of the year this weekend at the Spring Hill Suites Classic. North Texas will catch Davidson on Friday at 11 a.m. in its first match before facing Loyola at 6 p.m. The Mean Green will complete the tournament on Saturday with matches against host-school Charlotte and Winthrop.
