Basketball Teams Host Doubleheader Tonight

DENTON (1/12/06) - The North Texas basketball teams host a doubleheader tonight against conference foes, beginning with the women's game against Denver at 5 pm. The women are unbeaten at home with a 7-0 record.
The North Texas women return home riding a five-game winning streak to face the Denver Pioneers. The Mean Green has won of 11 its past 12 games and is looking for only its second 3-0 start in Sun Belt Conference play since joining the league. Denver comes to town having won six of their past eight games.
The North Texas-Denver series has been a closely contested on as the series is even at 5-5. The Mean Green and Pioneers have split the past six games over the last three years. Last season, North Texas defeated Denver,69-58, at home. North Texas has a record of 3-2 at the Super Pit against Denver. Of the 10 games played between the two teams, only three have been decided by more than 10 points.
North Texas is off to the best start in school history at 12-2 through the first 14 games. The Mean Green has won five straight games and of their past 2 games. Not since the 2001-02 season has North Texas won 11-of-12 during a single stretch.

The Mean Green men's team has won six of its last eight games and as is set to host Sun Belt Conference East Division foe Florida International at 7 pm in its third of four consecutive home games to open league play. Every North Texas game can be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
North Texas opened Sun Belt Conference play with a victory for the second consecutive year and fourth time under head coach Johnny Jones, but dropped its second league game to bring its conference record to 1-1. The Mean Green is tied for third place in the West Division and is just one game behind first-place Denver, which the Mean Green will host Monday, in the conference standings. The Mean Green has played seven of its last eight games at the Super Pit, where it is 7-2 this season, and remains at home for its next two games against one team from each of the Sun Belt’s two divisions.
