Athletes are not just sport performers. They are students, sons/daughters, friends, workers...etc. They are young men and women who will experience many of the same stressors and intra- and interpersonal problems that nonathletes do when attending college, including: adjusting to higher academic expectations; establishing new relationships; handling anger; eating nutritiously; developing new relationships; and making good behavioral choices. In addition, athletes, like nonathletes, may experience psychological problems, such as depression, drug/alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and relationship problems. For student athletes who are having difficulties in these or other areas, the Center’s consultants are available to help them discuss the problems they are having, develop more effective coping strategies, and be successful and happy in their lives.
