Individual Performance Consultations
10/24/2006 12:00:00 AM | General
Although athletes’ physical conditioning and skills and knowledge of their sport strongly determine how well they will perform, the reality is that their mental toughness also plays a key role. Athletes from the high school to Olympic and professional levels understand the influence of mental factors and seek assistance in developing the skills and strategies they need to achieve their maximum level of performance.
Through the Center, UNT student athletes can consult with sport psychologists to help them develop their mental toughness and improve their practice and competition performances. Through individual meetings with Center consultants, student athletes develop mental performance plans to assist them in reaching their goals and improving their play. Although each consultation is individualized to fit that athlete’s needs, topics might include: developing pre-performance routines; increasing confidence; handling distractions and maximizing focus; setting goals for success; imagery; communicating effectively; and regulating emotions and arousal.
