DENTON (11/21/06) - The North Texas football team will close out the 2006 season and the Darrell Dickey era on Saturday night at the site of the program’s first Sun Belt conference game, Louisiana Monroe.
Saturday’s game against Louisiana Monroe will be the final game for 16 North Texas seniors. Tyrone Carter, Beau Davidson, Marquis Ellison, Joel Foster, Phillip Graves, Robert Harmon, Denis Hopovac, Ronnie Hull, Richard Leary, Dylan Lineberry, James Mitchell, Zach Muzzy, Joel Nwigwe, Sky Pruitt, Johnny Quinn and Cass Starks will all be wearing their Mean Green uniforms for the last time.
Quinn will finish his North Texas career this week, leaving as the school’s all-time leader in both receptions and receiving yards. He has 183 receptions in four years and 2,723 receiving yards heading into the final game this week against Louisiana-Monroe. Quinn has started all but two games since coming to North Texas, his first game his freshman year and this year against Arkansas State. He will also finish his career ranked second in career all-purpose yards, trailing only his former teammate Patrick Cobbs. Quinn set all his records despite being the only wide receiver in North Texas history to be a starter on three teams that featured a 1,000-yard rusher.
Steven Jyles threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns to lead Louisiana Monroe to a 24-19 win against North Texas on Nov. 19, 2005 at Fouts Field. Louisiana-Monroe clinched a share of the Sun Belt title with the victory. The Indians jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and despite comeback efforts by the Mean Green, was able to stay ahead for the win. Jyles was 16-of-33 in the game for 218 yards, including two touchdowns. He also rushed for a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, extending ULM's lead to 24-13. North Texas freshman quarterback Matt Phillips was 16-of-32 for 217 yards and one touchdown. He led North Texas to scores on his first three drives after entering the game.
