Mean Green Fall On The Road To Hilltoppers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (2/11/06) Anthony Winchester scored a game-high 29 points as Western Kentucky overpowered the North Texas men’s basketball team 97-71 from E.A. Diddle Arena.

The win stretches the Hilltopper (18-5, 10-1) winning streak to six games while the Mean Green loses their fifth straight game.

“They are a very good basketball team and a great shooting team and when they get into this kind of atmosphere it makes them difficult to stop” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones.

North Texas had four players score in double figures led by junior Kendrick Davis who had 15.

Courtney Lee added 25 points for Western Kentucky as the Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky started the game with a 14-7 run in the first five minutes of the game.

North Texas battled back to cut the Hilltoppers lead to 16-13 two minutes later, but the Hilltoppers answered with a 8-0 to extend their lead to double figures at 24-13.

Western Kentucky closed the first half on a 22-9 run to take a 25-point lead into the break at 53-28. The Mean Green got as close as 66-47 with 12 minutes remaining, but the Hilltoppers responded with a 16-5 run to put the game away.

The Mean Green return to action in their final home game of the year on Wednesday, February 15 against UT-Pan American.
