Mean Green Football Receives National Award

DENTON (9/12/06) As if beating SMU 24-6 wasn’t enough on its own, on Monday the North Texas football team was named the Division I-A Team of the Week by CollegeSportsReport.com.

After coming off of a 56-7 loss to the defending national champion Texas Longhorns, it was Woody Wilson coming off the bench at quarterback to total 177 yards of offense and Johnny Quinn had his fourth 100-yard game of his career to subdue the Mustangs.
Evan Robertson blocked and recovered a punt for a touchdown to give the Mean Green the lead after the game’s first possession. Jamario Thomas wore down the SMU defense for 90 yards on 25 carries, including 81 yards and a touchdown in the second half.
The Mean Green defense held SMU’s spread offense to only 270 yards and three turnovers on the night.
North Texas will travel to the defending Conference
