Mean Green Volleyball Defeats Broncos In Tourney Opener

CHICAGO, Illinois (9/15/06) The North Texas (7-6) volleyball team opened up the Illinois-Chicago Tournament with a win Friday over Western Michigan (8-4) in five sets (30-21, 23-30, 25-30, 30-25, 15-13).
The tournament is the final tune-up for the Mean Green before conference begins next week at Arkansas State.
Brooke Engel, the conference leader in aces, tied her career high with six aces in the match. Catherine Coffey chipped in with 13 kills and eight blocks, including three block solos.
The is only the seventh time in the last 75 matches that the Mean Green has played a five-game match, and the second this year after losing in five games to TCU last week.
This is also the first time the Mean Green have tallied a win after having a lower attack percentage Western Michigan hit .155 while North Texas hit .140 - than their opponent.
North Texas will continue the Illinois-Chicago Tournament Saturday with a match versus Illinois-Chicago at 11 a.m. followed by a match with
