DENTON, Texas (11/14/07) North Texas head coach Johnny Jones announced the signing of Arlington Grace Prep center Ben Knox to a National Letter of Intent.
The TAPPS 1-5A All-District selection helped send Arlington Grace Prep to the state title game in 2006-07. The 6-10, 215-pound center is ranked by TexasHoops.com as the No. 62 ranked player in the state, and set his school’s blocks record as a junior.
"Ben will be a great addition to our program," Jones said. "His ability to play with his back to the basket, as well as face-up and knock down shots, will make him an additional threat on the offensive end. The way he can block shots and rebound should help give us an edge on the defensive end of the floor. We are excited to sign him because he has a great future in front of him"
Knox has the Lions positioned as the fifth ranked private school squad in the state according to TexasHoops.com, with one of the top-10 offenses in the DFW area at 61.8 points per game. Shooting 60 percent from the floor, he averaged 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior last year.
The Knox family will announce the signing at 1:00 p.m. at Arlington Grace Prep.
A scholar athlete as well, Knox ranks in the top 25 percent of his class at Grace Prep. His older sister, Cathryn, is a senior North Texas.
North Texas is coming off a school-record 23-win season and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1988. The Mean Green face off against Oklahoma State tonight at the Super Pit at 7:00 p.m.
