Mean Green, White Ready For Indiana State Today

DENTON, Texas (11/17/07) It’s not often a freshman gets carried off the court by his teammates, let alone in the second game of the season. But North Texas’ Josh White isn’t your normal freshman.

The Baton Rouge, La., native racked up 25 points in leading the Mean Green to its first ever win over Oklahoma State on Wednesday. White also had three steals and two assists, and knocked down six free throws in the final 44 seconds to ice the game. He is a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line this year, and leads the team with a 19.5 ppg average.

The Mean Green closes its three-game home stand today against the Missouri Valley’s Indiana State at 2 p.m. NT leads the all-time series with the Sycamores 3-1, but ISU took the last meeting 77-63 at the Indiana Classic in 1999.

What To Watch For

North Texas players made nine of 10 free throws in the final two minutes against Oklahoma State, including six by freshman Josh White, to seal the deal. On the year, North Texas is shooting 57.1 percent from the floor while holding its opponents to 33.3 percent in the final two minutes of games.

A win over Indiana State would give the Mean Green a 3-0 start for only the 17th time in the 90-year history of North Texas basketball. NT last started 3-0 in 1994-95.

Wednesday’s attendance of 6,793 ranks as the eighth largest in school history, and the most for a single game since 1980. The season opening crowd of 3,136 against Div. II Cameron was topped only twice last season.

Playing wise beyond his years, freshman Josh White ranks second in the Sun Belt with 19.5 points per game, and leads the conference with a 12-12 mark from the free throw line.
