Watson Hits Six Three-Pointers In Loss To ASU

DENTON (2/22/07) Senior Calvin Watson, the Mean Green’s all-time three-point leader, hit six threes in tonight’s game, but the North Texas men’s basketball team came up just short against Arkansas State, 74-71, in the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (18-10, 9-8) lost both games in the season’s series with

Watson, who was one point shy of a season high, recorded 26 points, including 17 in the first half. He made five of his six three-pointers in the first half to lead the Mean Green to an 11-point halftime lead, 40-29.
Watson, who became NT’s all-time leader in made three-point field goals last game, moved into second place in the single-season list with 78 three-pointers. He also moved into 11th place all-time at
ASU went on a 24-13 run to open the second half, tying the game at 53-53. Ryan Wedel hit a three-pointer to tie the game and then followed it up with another to give ASU its first lead, 56-53, since midway through the first half.
Kendrick Davis, who scored 14 points in the game, tied the game with a three-pointer and then retrieved the lead for the Mean Green, 63-61, with a jumper at 2:45. After Keith Wooden made a free throw, ASU scored the next eight points to take back the lead for good, 69-64, with 40 seconds left in the game.
The Mean Green won the rebound battle, 42 to 31. Quincy Williams was three points shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and seven points. Keith Wooden was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight boards and 10 points.
