New Orleans Hits Three At Buzzer To Steal Win

DENTON (2/8/07) Bo McCalebb hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the New Orleans men’s basketball team a 64-62 victory against North Texas on Thursday night at the Super Pit.
“Our guys played hard,” said head coach Johnny Jones. “We did not shoot the basketball as effectively as we have in the past. We kept fighting and put ourselves in position to win the game in the end. Credit
McCalebb has proved to be a thorn in the Mean Green’s side this season. He scored 39 points in the last meeting between the two teams, which UNO won in double overtime. He led three UNO players tonight in double figures with 25.
After the Mean Green took its first lead of the second half with 12 seconds left in the game, it was McCaleb who tied the game for UNO with a free throw after Quincy Williams fouled out.
NT’s Ben Bell then raced down the court and was fouled going to the basket. He made one of two free throws to give the Mean Green its second lead, 62-61, with two seconds left. McCalebb shot the three with two Mean Green players in his face just as time was expiring.

Entering that final minute,
Wooden recorded his first double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. He is only the other player besides Quincy Williams to post a double-double this season. Williams recorded his fifth career double-double with 10 rebounds and 16 points.
Wooden and Williams combined for 14-of-16 free throws in the game. As a team, the Mean Green shot 79 percent from the charity stripe.
The Mean Green struggled from three-point range, shooting 1-for-11. Calvin Watson hit the team’s only three at the start of the second half.
UNO shot 53.3 percent from three-point range, hitting eight three-pointers in the game. McCaleb was three-for-three from behind the arc.
With his two blocks in the game, Rich Young became the first player in school history to record at least 40 assists, 25 blocks and 25 steals in a single season. The senior has recorded 47 assists, 26 blocks and 28 steals this season.
After the fourth tie of the game, UNO went on a 9-0 run to take a 32-23 lead towards the end of the first half. Wooden cut the lead to five at the half with two free throws, 34-29.
