Volleyball Picks Up Split In Day One Of Tulsa Invitational

TULSA, Okla. (9/14/07) The Mean Green volleyball team made short work of Grambling State today, earning a split in day one of the Tulsa Invitational.

North Texas (3-8) swept the Tigers, 30-20, 30-19, 30-16 in Friday’s matinee, but fell to Tulsa in the evening affair, 16-30, 27-30, 25-30.

Catherine Coffey was nothing short of stellar in both matches, posting 23 kills and a .306 attack percentage on the day. The junior also added three blocks as well as a trio of digs.

Jessica Hulsebosch posted back-to-back 20-dig matches, North Texas’ first 20-dig performances of the year. The senior is already the program’s all-time dig leader, bringing her career total to 1,797.

Once again, a fast start proved the make or break point for the Mean Green. NT pounced on Grambling to the tune of 16 kills and a .205 hitting percentage in the opening game, but struggled with a .000 hitting percentage and only eight kills against the Golden Hurricane. North Texas is 3-1 when it wins game one and 0-8 when it fails to take the first game.

The Mean Green returns to action tomorrow against the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.
