North Texas vs. Arkansas State
Convocation Center Jonesboro, Ark.
January 10, 2008
Game Notes
- Collin Dennis racked up a career-high 30 points against Arkansas State, making him the first North Texas player to reach the 30-point plateau in five years. The last person to reach that mark was Chris Davis in a 30 point outing versus Western Kentucky on Feb. 8, 2003. Davis is also the last person to have more points, posting 32 against FIU on March 1, 2002. The 30-point outing is Dennis’ fourth game of the season with over 20 points.
- North Texas used a 10-0 run to break open the game in the first half. The Mean Green has had 18 separate runs of 10 or more unanswered points this season.
- For the fourth straight game, North Texas has had a player reach double figures in the first half. Collin Dennis racked up 14 first-half points against Arkansas State en route to his 30-point night.
- Quincy Williams tied a career high with four blocks against ASU. The outing moved the senior into a tie for second place in school history with 81 career blocks. Williams is now tied with Wendell Williams, who played from 1986-89. Williams is still 38 blocks shy of the school record held by Jeffrey Simpson (119 from 2004-06).
- For only the second time, North Texas has posted double digit wins in back-to-back Sun Belt games. The Mean Green beat ULM by 21 points on Monday, and followed that with an 11 point win at Arkansas State on Thursday. Since entering the league in 2000-01 NT accomplished that feat only one other time, notching a 17 point win over FAU and a 13 point win over MTSU in January of 2007.
- For only the third time in the Johnny Jones era, North Texas shot over 50 percent from 3-point in consecutive games. The Mean Green hit 55 percent from downtown against ULM and 54.5 percent at Arkansas State. North Texas has hit at least six 3-pointers in four straight games.
- North Texas tallied eight total blocked shots against Arkansas State, matching the season high it reached on two other occasions (vs. Southern & Centenary). At 4.0 blocks per game, North Texas is on pace for 116 regular season blocks, which would register as the fifth best mark in school history. The top five block seasons in school history all occurred in the Johnny Jones era, including last year’s school record 151 blocks.
- North Texas shot 30 free throws against Arkansas State, and is now 34-10 in the Johnny Jones era when attempting at least 30 in a game.
- North Texas out-rebounded Arkansas State 41-29, and has now out-rebounded 14 of its 15 opponents this year. The Mean Green holds a +8.2 rebounding margin, which leads the Sun Belt Conference.
