Florida Atlantic Hosting Mean Green Basketball Tonight

BOCA RATON, Fla. (1/19/08) The Mean Green men’s basketball team had its home streak snapped, while the women are starting a streak of their own. Both teams are in action on Saturday against Florida Atlantic in a double-header beginning at 4 p.m.

The Mean Green men had their 10-game home win streak snapped on Thursday by New Orleans, and will look to rebound against FAU. The streak tied for the fifth longest in school history.

North Texas will take on the Owls for just the second time on Saturday. The Mean Green won the first meeting, 76-59, at the Super Pit last year.

Quincy Williams tallied 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds against New Orleans for his team-leading third double-double of the season. Williams is only four boards shy of 10th place in school history in career rebounds. The senior now has 587 boards, just shy of Tony Worrell (591 from 1984-88) for 10th place.

Brittney James scored 16 and Yari Escalera recorded a season-high 15 points to lead the North Texas women’s team to a 62-53 victory against New Orleans at the Super Pit on Thursday night. The Mean Green has won its last two games, and can notch its first three-game win streak in three seasons at FAU.

A win against the Owls would go a long way in vaulting NT back into the Sun Belt race. The Mean Green has been closing strong lately, averaging 34 points a game in the second half while hitting 41 percent of its shots. Over the past two games that number rises even more as NT has outscored its opponents 41-26 in the last two games in the second half.

The Mean Green women hit the court at 4 p.m. and can be heard on 88.1 KNTU-FM. The men tip off at 6 p.m., and can be heard on 100.7 KWRD-FM.
