DENTON, Texas (1/31/08) The North Texas men’s basketball team will look to get out of its funk tonight, but it won’t get any help from Sun Belt leader South Alabama.
Currently riding its longest losing streak in two seasons, North Texas (12-7, 3-5) welcomes the Jaguars (17-3, 9-0) to the Super Pit. The Mean Green has lost six straight to the Jaguars, but has won 10 of its last 11 games at the Super Pit. USA is currently on a 13-game win streak.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CST following the women’s game at 5 p.m., and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
What To Watch For
Quincy Williams hauled in six boards at Middle Tennessee to record his 600th career rebound. The senior is the 10th player in North Texas history to reach the 600-rebound plateau. Next on the list for Williams is Ronnie Morgan, who piled up 649 boards from 1987-90. Williams ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference with 7.7 rebounds per game this year.
Ben Bell leads North Texas with 60 assists this year, and could become just the sixth player in Mean Green history to top 100 in back-to-back seasons. The senior was the first player in seven years to reach the century mark last year when he tallied 105 dimes.
NT’s current three-game skid is its longest since February of 2006. In the last five seasons, the Mean Green has had only three losing streaks of three games or longer.
NT has a -4.0 rebounding margin and an 0-3 record in its last three outings, but was +8.2 with a 12-4 mark in its first 16 games. Overall, North Texas has a -1.9 rebounding margin in losses, but a +11.0 margin in wins.
