Wrap Up Free Throws...

If you’ve ever been out to a Mean Green practice, you know Johnny Jones and
Since the Mean Green is wrapping things up, so is the MeanGreenSports.com Blog. See ya tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the Shanice Stephens show at 1 p.m.
Full Court Fun...
5:31 p.m.
Finally, a scrimmage! This is what the Blog has been waiting for, four minute full-court mini-games that gives the Mean Green a chance to really run.
The white and green squads split a couple of games, but several individual efforts stuck out. Harold Stewart grabbed a tough rebound on the left block, and took it back up strong for a lay-in. Collin Dennis stroked a tough 3-pointer in the face of Adam McCoy, who returned the favor on a drive and dunk play on the other end.
Kedrick Hogans sealed a win for the green side with an effortless block on Dennis with 23 seconds left in the second game.
Jones’ Generals... This might never have occurred to anyone reading the Blog today, but both of the Mean Green floor generals Josh White and Dominique Johnson share a last name with actual famous Union Army Generals. Coincidence, I think not. In 1862, Abraham Lincoln appointed Andrew Johnson the military governor of occupied Julius White was a more hands-on general, who led the 37th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the Battle of Pea Ridge. After stunting the Confederates there, White ascended to the rank of Brigadier General in charge of the Army of Virginia. He would retire as a Major General and would eventually serve as the U.S. Minister to Dunk Of The Day... You knew the Blog couldn’t go three days without Harold Stewart winning the Dunk of the Day award. Reminiscent of the Hank The Tank... Hank Dickenson, radio voice of the Mean Green basketball team, just stopped by practice to survey the troops. Dickenson has seen a lot of North Texas basketball over the years, and says the 1-2-3 combo of Dominique Johnson, Josh White and Collin Dennis gives the Mean Green the best backcourt he’s seen in his time in Not to be lost in the shuffle, Dickenson thinks that Tristan Thompson went under the radar as a freshman last year, and looks poised to make a statement in 2008-09. Just to prove him right, Thompson nailed a 3-pointer as Hank was uttering those words. Hot For Hoops... Call me crazy, but the Blog can’t wait to get back to Personally, the Blog can’t wait to take a hot bath. The Buckstaff is Hot Springs’ last operational bath house, and is a must for anyone looking to relax before a big Mean Green win in Hot Springs! Little Jet Looks Like Lightning... 4:04 p.m. There isn’t anything not to like about NT point guard Dominique Johnson. Just now, Johnson was on offense in a 1-versus-2 drill taking on Josh White and Tristan Thompson. The Arkansas-Fort Smith product went left and pulled off a double cross-over move to split between the two sophomores. Thompson and White even tried to foul, but the speedy guard just sprinted through and cruised in for a layup. World Champion Dribbler??? 3:51 p.m. Normally a reserved guy, Collin Mangrum isn’t shy about his dribbling skills. The pride of As a matter of fact, Mangrum has crowned himself the Dribbling Champion of the “Let me know when you can do that stuff in a game, and I’ll take you on,” said NT’s newest point guard Dominique Johnson with a big smirk on his face. The Blog Is Back... Welcome back to the MeanGreenSports.com Basketball Blog! The The men are taking the floor now and are looking fresh despite four practices in the last five days. That’s a credit to the offseason workouts from strength coach Chris Seroka and a stellar training staff led by Brad Anderson. If it wasn’t for these guys, the Mean Green wouldn’t survive half the season. Aside from the usual bumps and bruises, NT looks ready for action.
